Ant Races

One of our events we held at Ant Vegas was Ant Races. The creator for the ants we used is Matilda Milena and we purchased them on the SL Marketplace. With the help of sripter and artist,  Jil Rodenberger we made the ants move and race.

Our first ant race was Wednesday, October 18, followed by three more races on the following days after. Let me describe real quick how the ant race worked; touching the ant pole at the start line, a number of ants were rezzed, contestants took a seat and were told to use the keyboard arrows to race the ants. The race started with a ready, steady, and on go it was time to run. The race course was in a clockwise direction around the block. Because, we were limited to post only at our location, some of our ant racers forgot where to go and got lost. It was not an easy task, especially, at least so I was told, because the ants  used in the races must have been drunk or short sighted and were with the lag hard to maneuver.

Many dared anyway and kept going to run the race until they won one of the beautiful Trophies created by Penelope Parx. All participants received an ant wrangler t-shirt created by Visceral Dreamscape, as proof they handled the ants greatly and raced them well. The ant races were a full success and all in all loads of fun.

We loved it! We lived it! But soon it is gone: The Burning Man Playa in Second Life will soon disappear. If you haven't seen our installation "Welcome to Fabulous AntVegas" on the grid, you can get a few glimpses here on Flickr! And if you have indeed seen it, it's a way to relive this show that was talked about so much on and off the playa.

Take flight

We don't want to show you every detail of our installation here. But give you some insights over the coming days. Here's just a quick overview over our plots - and the story behind "Fabulous AntVegas":

WELCOME TO FABULOUS ANTVEGAS
Burn2 - 2010
Aeonia Artist Group at Burning Man 2
The Aeonia Artist Group moved an ant hill into the desert and let the ants experience their personal Sodom and Gomorra. See what happens to the highly organized society if all those all too human distractions are introduced: Shopping, Gambling, Prostitution and Religion.
The theme of Burn2 is "Metropolis - Civilization in the Desert".Ant Hills are among the highest organized civilizations of all. A Metropolis where every member of society has its specific role to play - and work towards the main goal: survival of the tribe.
Individualism has no place in this society. If members start to wander off, the hill is not protected anymore, larvae are not fed, the queen is not cared for. Demise of the whole queendom is the result. Or is it?
What would happen, if the strive for personal freedom and satisfaction of personal desires would become the main goal of every individual ant?
Come to the ultimate Ant Adventure in "Fabulous AntVegas"!

Burn2 is open!

So we finally made it in. And we bravely fought the lag-monster. There were more then 250 people on the playa at most times.
It was almost impossible to move. We couldn't rezz any props. And we had to (kind of) cancel our first event, because people couldn't come.
In two words: Burning Man!
Hey everyone! Come down to the playa and celebrate with us. There are so many amazing builds...and so many fun things to do.
And make sure to visit us at "Fabulous Ant Vegas" and say hi - or pick up some of our fun presents. Screen the plots well - as they might be hidden. Click on everything you see.
Burn on!

The Burn2-project is well under way

Not much time left until the Burn2-Festival opens. October 16 is the big day. For all the artists and builders involved this is a extremely busy, but also fun and rewarding time. Aeonia Artist Group has 5 plots and 1 theme camp to fill. And our project is well under way. All plots are coming to live - one of them even is close to completion. Unfortunately we cannot show you any of the work we have done so far, due to burn2-regulations. But what we can show you is: Burners (as the people involved with the Burning Man are called) don't only work hard.
They party hard, too. A big chunk of them took time off last night to come together to film the trailer-machinima for the Burn2-festival. And they were burning for sure! It's just an amazing bunch of hugely creative people coming together to create what has been - and hopefully will remain to be - one of Second Life's benchmark events. Expect to be amazed, when the doors of the two week long - open 24 hours a day - festival are opened. See robots, ants, crawlers, dancers, crazy vehicles, architechture, stories and lots and lots and lots of fire. And above all: be at some of the events running 24/7 at the four Burn-sims.
